At the Grey Bruce Pet Hospital, the health and well-being of your pets is our top priority and we are excited to announce that as a pet parent of the Grey Bruce Community, your access to Emergency On-Call is improving. Please see below for important updates to our after-hours emergency services.

There will be NO CHANGE in our Weeknight Emergency On-call Hours: We will continue to offer limited on-call services Monday through to Thursday until 9:00pm

New Weekend After-Hours Emergency Information:

Any emergencies requiring immediate attention from Friday 6:00 PM until Monday 6:00 AM will now be referred to the Bluewater Veterinary Emergency Clinic operating out of the North Heritage Animal Hospital (285 10th Street West, Owen Sound). Bluewater Veterinary Emergency Clinic will also be offering on-call hours during statutory holidays

Who Can Use the Service?

All emergency calls will continue to be triaged through SmartVet, our Telehealth service. Their experienced team will assess the situation and guide you on the appropriate steps, whether that is arranging an appointment with us, a virtual consultation with a veterinarian or referring you to the Bluewater Veterinary Emergency Clinic for urgent care.

You will need to be an established client at our hospital in order to use our weeknight emergency service. However, on weekends and statutory holidays the Bluewater Veterinary Emergency Clinic is open to the general public. For continuity of care we still recommend you utilize our Telehealth service at 226-780-6957 to initiate the referral.

How Does It Work?

Monday – Friday 8am-5pm
Call our regular hospital number 519-376-PETS (7387) and you will be assisted by a member of our Client Care team.

Monday – Thursday 5pm-9pm
Call our emergency services number 226-780-6957 and if your pet needs to be seen by a veterinarian, the SmartVet team will transfer you to the Grey Bruce Pet Hospital doctor on-call. Note, this is outside of our regular operating hours so medical care will only be coordinated through the triage process. Please do not proceed to the hospital until you have received instruction.

Friday 6pm – Monday 6am
Call our emergency services number, 226-780-6957 and your call will be triaged by the SmartVet team. Should your pet need to be transferred to an emergency service, SmartVet will arrange transfer to the Bluewater Veterinary Emergency clinic or another available emergency service most suitable your pet’s expected level of care and provide you with further instructions.
